CBSE’s On-Screen Marking System Triggers Nationwide Outrage Over Blurred Answer Sheets and Portal Failures
Serious allegations have surfaced against CBSE’s On-Screen Marking system after students across India reported blurred scanned answer sheets, unfair evaluation, and major technical failures on the re-evaluation portal. Complaints involving login issues, captcha errors, payment failures, and fears of incorrect marking have intensified demands for transparency and accountability.
The controversy has intensified after several students alleged that unclear scanned answer sheets may have also been used by evaluators during assessment, potentially leading to incorrect marking and even zero marks on properly attempted answers. With more than 17 lakh Class 12 students evaluated through the On-Screen Marking system this year, critics have questioned whether the technology was implemented without adequate preparation and testing.
Students and parents have also reported major technical failures on the CBSE re-evaluation portal. According to complaints, many applicants faced repeated website crashes, login failures, captcha-related issues, and payment processing errors while attempting to apply for rechecking or access scanned copies of answer sheets. The alleged technical disruptions have prevented numerous students from completing the re-evaluation process within the required timeline, increasing frustration and uncertainty.
Amid mounting criticism, students are demanding transparency regarding the evaluation process and seeking clarification on how answer sheets were assessed despite the alleged poor quality of scanned copies. Concerns have also been raised over the board’s accountability and the measures adopted to ensure fairness and accuracy in marking under the digital evaluation system.
The situation has further intensified financial and academic stress among affected students and families, particularly those waiting for re-evaluation outcomes while facing uncertainty over admissions and future academic plans. Despite widespread complaints, the board has maintained that the On-Screen Marking system is functioning properly.
The controversy surrounding the digital evaluation process has now emerged as a major concern in India’s education sector, with growing demands for accountability, technical transparency, and safeguards to protect students from possible errors in one of the country’s largest examination systems.
